First Westport legal firm to completely implement Microsoft Windows Vista, successfully.

Jan 2008. Don't believe the hype. Windows Vista actually works, when you set it up properly. Patrick Durcan, principal of Patrick J. Durcan & Company bought his first computer network from our Managing director in 1989. This was a top of the range system for its day and was replaced in 1999 with a Microsoft Small Business Server network running exclusively on Compaq servers and desktops. This progressive firm had enabled properly secured Internet access and SMTP email facilities to all of the computers in house, giving them a technological edge on their colleagues at a time when most other practices still had only a single computer for email at best. This system has now been replaced after almost 9 years of reliable service with the latest version of Microsoft's Small Business Server Premium, complete with its state of the art firewall, security, email and remote access facilities, on new state of the art HP Servers and PC's. They have once again taken the lead by installing centrally managed Symantec software that screen all email both internally and externally, eliminating Virus', and SPAM.

Staff can now work from home securely, with full access to their office systems as if they were sitting at their desks. Secure & encrypted access to their email is now available remotely for selected users, from any PC connected to the Internet, anywhere in the world.

While most business look to changing their systems on a 2-3 year basis, a longer term view has been taken once again ensuring that the top of the range HP hardware along with Microsoft Vista and Office 2007 should still be providing excellent service for years and years to come.

The solution was delivered exactly on time and exactly on budget. IT Systems took our old system offline at 12:30pm and had us fully operational after changing servers, replacing our old PC's with new HP units, transferring all of our files (over 165,00 of them) and enabling external email and access to our Solpro Legal accounting and time management software by 3:30 on the same day. Amazing!

IT Systems maintain and support our entire network from their offices in Clare. They have complete access to our systems remotely and are able to deal with problems immediately.

The new computer system is based on the new Generation 5 HP Proliant Server. This system has dual Quad Core processor and 4Gb of Server memory. Disk storage is provided over several RAID arrays fitted with 15,000 rpm drives to ensure maximum performance. All of the HP desktop computers also have the newer Quad core processors and 4Gb of memory. Office 2007 and Solpro V Legal accounting and time recording software is installed on all systems. The network runs at 1,000 Mb/s unlike legacy networks that are only able to run at 10 Mb/s or 100 Mb/s. Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 /R2 including ISA Firewall has been installed on the server to give unrivalled security and performance. All operations including filtered internet and email are centralised and managed remotely.
