Assignment Marking Updates in Microsoft Teams

Marking Assignments as Inactive

Microsoft have now added this feature for teachers to mark an assignment as inactive. This setting which will hide the assignment from the active list for both students and teachers. This new features comes due to feedback from teachers regarding the removal assignments from the students’ view, once they are complete. This feature could be utilised for optional assignments, assignments that do not require submission, or assignments that are not completed by all the students. This way, you as a teacher can avoid having a cluttered list of active assignments and your students can focus on the important ones.

It important to note students can still access the assignment and its content in their completed assignment list and gradebook.

Assignments Updates is set to roll out in April 2023.

Reimagined and enhanced with a performance-first mindset in Microsoft Teams

An Introduction to “New Teams”

Microsoft has announced the beginning of a new era of Microsoft Teams – reimagined from the ground up for a faster, simpler, and more flexible Teams experience. This new and improved edition of teams is set to be 2X faster, whether you’re starting up the app, presenting in a meeting, or responding to messages. Updates also include 50% less memory, lower CPU, disk utilization, and less battery life. Users will be able to access multiple accounts and multiple tenants (MTMA) more seamlessly. It is important to note that this New Teams interface is available on Windows Desktop only.

Once New Teams is released for the Education sector, users will see a Toggle Button in the top left corner of the Teams Desktop in their current version of Teams (Classic). Users can turn this toggle on, when prompted, and can access the New Teams experience by clicking “Get it now” to install the new Teams client.
Users can go back to Classic Teams at any time, simply by toggling off the button in the top left corner.

New Teams will be generally available for all Education users. Microsoft will communicate this availability in advance before rolling it out. So, keep an eyes to those inboxes!
